ARTIST
Angel Peychinov
Born in Bulgaria in 1977, the artist studied in his home country at the Art Academy in Plovdiv and from 2001 to 2007 at the Städelschule in Frankfurt with professors Hermann Nitsch, Simon Starling and Christa Näher. From 2006 to 2007 Angel Peychinov was a scholarship holder of the Dr. Hans-Werner Dildei Foundation. In 2007 he completed his studies as a master student with Prof. Näher.
Angel Peychinov follows a virtuoso hyperrealism in his painting. Beautiful, flawless skin of young women, covered by little fabric, is the focus of his work. Details like shiny metal buttons or the drapery of a fabric are experiencing the same attention and precision of the artist, as the incarnate or the gestures of the depicted figure. The movement of fabric and body plays the decisive role in his works.
The viewer can feel both the souplesse of a silk scarf and the force with which it is wrapped around the protagonist’s hair. Peychinov’s actors often seem lost in thought, almost melancholic.
The formal structure of Peychinov’s paintings is subject to classical triangular and pyramidal forms.
That his hyperrealistic painting is preceded by an intensive study of the old masters – he mentions Michelangelo and Rembrandt – is clear to see. Peychinov has already been able to demonstrate his mastery of the craft in numerous group exhibitions, including various art spaces, the graduate exhibition of the Städelschule, the Bezirksmuseum Buchen, the Frankfurt Portikus and at German art fairs. Angel Peychinov received his first solo exhibition after his art studies in Bulgaria at the Art Centre Pushkin in Antwerp. Since then his paintings have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
