Cveta Markova
Cveta Markova, born in Bulgaria in 1978, successfully completed her art studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Plovdiv in 2000. From 2002 to 2004 she continued her artistic education at the Städelschule with Prof. Michael Kreber. Through her precise powers of observation and her distinct sense of color, she lends her works a strong emotionality and expressiveness.
Markova alternates between a rough brush application and a very detailed execution of the sitter. Her coloring consists largely of muted shades, resulting in a sensual and mysterious effect. She accentuates individual details with bright colors to give her works liveliness, impulsiveness and positive energy.
The artist is intensely concerned with the representation of the human being on both figurative and abstract levels. Her works are created in multiple, glazed superimposed layers, which presents her devoted and intimate creation. Consciously, the artist leaves details unfinished to make the creative process visible to the viewer and to provide space for interpretation.
With the diversity of her subject matter, she places a great focus on the representation of light, dynamics and transparency. She always engages in new creative experiences and remains open and dynamic in her work.
The artist has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Among others in various art spaces – the Frankfurt Portikus, the Art Centre Pushkin in Antwerp, the MVB Forum and the Kunstverein Eisenturm in Mainz.
