Christian Awe
Color, light, energy, rhythm and dynamics are essential elements in the work of artist Christian Awe. Whether in exhibitions or as oversized murals covering more than 500 m² in places such as Tokyo, Miami, Berlin, Frankfurt or Palma de Mallorca – his works fascinate with their radiance and vibrancy.
With an emotionally charged use of color, Awe creates a synesthetic atmosphere in his paintings in which any sensory experience is possible and creates a moment of freedom and joie de vivre for the viewer.
Awe’s art is inspired by music, dance, urban influences and elements of nature. In doing so, he constantly explores the boundaries of painting anew. In his works, Awe blurs the boundaries between imagination and reality in a play of light and shadow. The three-dimensional color landscapes of his “water paintings” appear photorealistic, almost as if they were printed. They captivate with their artistic ingenuity, as every drop of water is painted.
Energetic streams of color and powerful splashes lend the works an incomparably passionate intensity. Paired with airy, floating gestures, they combine to create an exciting dialog of spontaneity, experimentation and artistic calculation.
Different levels appeal to the senses at first glance. On closer inspection, however, they allow us to see and feel much more and always something new, sweeping us away into a cosmos of colors and emotions.
Christian Awe lives and works in Berlin and Palma de Mallorca. He is involved in a variety of social and cultural projects with a focus on education, health and integration. Among other things, he realized the construction of a school and a hospital in Burkina Faso (West Africa).
