Leszek Skurski, born in Gdańsk in 1973, is a distinctive voice in contemporary figurative painting. Within his expansive, almost monochromatic pictorial spaces, figures appear like fleeting memories—alone, in pairs, or gathered in enigmatic groups. Skurski’s pared-down compositions draw their power from suggestion and ambiguity. With a keen sensitivity to composition and atmosphere, he transforms everyday scenes into multilayered images that oscillate between intimacy and distance, memory and the present, leaving room for personal associations and interpretations.
Same Direction invites viewers to step into these open-ended pictorial worlds and discover their own narratives between what is visible and what is merely suggested. To mark the beginning of the season, Galerie Barbara von Stechow presents the work of the award-winning Polish artist in a solo exhibition.
